Located in the heart of Preston’s thriving Harris Quarter, Preston Markets is your destination for fresh, locally sourced produce from a range of
independent traders. With a packed calendar of family-friendly events all year round, it’s the perfect place to shop, eat, and explore.
Preston became an official market town in 1179 when it was awarded Guild Merchant status by King Henry II. Throughout the industrial revolution Preston became a burgeoning town, with over 40 cotton mills and 700 public houses. By the mid-1800s a brand-new marketplace was conceived and in 1875 the elegant Victorian market canopy, located at the heart of Preston city centre was completed. In 2018 the wrought iron canopy was painstakingly renovated, and
a new, contemporary Market Hall installed within. Over 150 years after it was built, Preston Markets is still a bustling marketplace selling fresh, local Lancashire produce along with a variety of quality eateries and a cosy craft beer bar.
