Lancaster was subject to various charters, from as early as 1193, however the official Market Charter was granted by King Edward III in 1337 where the history of the Market was said to have occurred from time immemorial.

The market pops up every week at the heart of the pedestrianised Lancaster city centre every Wednesday and Saturday and a popular destination for locals, students and visitors alike, being close to some of the city’s major historic, retail and cultural attractions.

Markets once the hub of a community, are growing in importance as people strive to once to be more connected to their communities and those around them. That’s why Lancaster Charter Market is delighted to celebrate Love Your Local Market.
