The market was started by Brighouse Town Council in 1902 at King Street. It then moved to Bonegate in the 1950s. After the area was redeveloped in the 1970s, it moved to its current site at Ship Street.

The market offers:
A range of fresh foods that include a delicious range of cakes and popular fish and meat stalls.
An ethical beauty stall.
An alterations stall, which also sells handmade goods.
A range of local crafted products that include an incense stall and a pet stall.
There is also a fabulous café. Why not stop for a rest and a drink or enjoy a wide range of tasty meals and snacks.

Developments

Brighouse has been awarded £19.1m through the Town Deal programme. This is part of the Government’s plan for levelling up the UK economy.

As part of the programme, we will build a new market building on the canal side with:

space for 40 fixed and pop-up market stalls with areas to sit, meet and rest;
and a flexible event space in the centre of the market.

While the new market is being built the traders will move to a temporary site on Daisy Street Car Park.
